Influential Milan figure tipped to sign contract extension this summer

AC Milan defender Theo Hernandez is reportedly expected to put pen to paper on a contract extension with the club by the end of the summer.

The 26-year-old arrived in 2019 and has since gone on to make 213 appearances for the club, scoring 29 goals and providing 39 assists to go with his defensive work.

While there is no doubt over Theo’s importance for us given what he contributes in both phases, question marks have been raised over his future this summer as speculation has linked him with an exit.

However, as reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, with a lack of serious offers thus far, the expectation is that the French international will sign a contract renewal with the Rossoneri to improve his salary and secure his long-term future.

It’s added that Milan’s priorities currently lie with signing reinforcements to strengthen our squad, but barring any key developments in terms of interested clubs making a proposal, the outcome is expected to be Theo putting pen to paper on a new deal.

Following the appointment of Paulo Fonseca, it’s a crucial summer for Milan in terms of constructing a squad that is capable of challenging for major honours this season and beyond.

An important factor in that is keeping our best players at the club and building around them rather than having to replace them, provided that they form a fundamental part of Fonseca’s plans moving forward.

Based on the report above and previous comments from Zlatan Ibrahimovic earlier this month, Theo is still seen as a pivotal figure for us, and so we’ll hope to see him return to pre-season training and flourish under the new Milan boss as he implements his preferred style of play and system.

With the Portuguese tactician emphasising the need to not only win but to play with a positive brand of football at his official unveiling this month, Theo will certainly be an integral element in that process, and hopefully doubts over his future will be removed later this summer when he signs his new contract extension.
