Double Milan fitness boost for Pioli ahead of Cagliari clash

AC Milan boss Stefano Pioli has confirmed that both Pierre Kalulu and Ismael Bennacer are ready to play against Cagliari this weekend.

The Rossoneri will look to secure all three points on Saturday night as we continue to push to secure second place in Serie A this season.

It’s been an underwhelming campaign and speculation has suggested that there could be significant changes coming this summer, but the focus for now is on our remaining league outings and finishing the season as positively as possible.

In order to do that, Pioli will hope to have as close to a fully-fit squad at his disposal as possible, and he provided some good news on Friday in his pre-match press conference on both Kalulu and Bennacer.

“It seems to me that they are fine,” he told the media, as per MilanNews. “Isma is finding his rhythm, Pierre is fine but he is not 100%. They are both ready to play.”

According to both MilanNews and La Gazzetta dello Sport, the pair could both get the nod this weekend, and it’s hoped that they can string a few starts together to end the campaign and showcase their importance in the Milan XI again.

Davide Calabria will no doubt push Kalulu for that starting berth at right-back, but having had the last 10 minutes or so in our draw with Genoa last time out, the French defender will be desperate to build on that and get back to being a fixture in the starting line-up.

As for Bennacer, he featured for 80 minutes in that 3-3 draw last Sunday after coming off the bench in recent weeks, and given both have suffered a disrupted campaign due to injury, it would be a boost to see them feature regularly again and give us a lift with their quality in the final few weeks.

It will be intriguing to see how many changes Pioli opts to make as he’s being tipped to make some big calls for this clash, but it’s hoped whoever is named in his Milan XI can put in a crucial shift and help us pick up an important win.
