Talks continue over transfer target as Milan look to address glaring issue

AC Milan are reportedly continuing negotiations with RB Salzburg over the potential transfer of defender Strahinja Pavlovic this summer.

The 23-year-old joined Salzburg in 2022 following spells at Monaco, FC Basel, Cercle Brugge and Partizan Belgrade, and has since gone on to make 71 appearances for the club.

He’s also been capped 38 times by Serbia, and so he is well established already having gained valuable experience at the top level.

His form has seemingly attracted the attention of Milan, as Fabrizio Romano reports that talks are continuing over a deal, with the Rossoneri keen to reach an agreement for a fee less than €20m.

He adds that Pavlovic has already given the green light to a move to join us, and so it remains to be seen if an agreement can be reached between the two clubs to pave the way for a transfer to materialise.

It’s absolutely vital that Milan bring in reinforcements this summer to improve Paulo Fonseca’s squad, and importantly, to give him the players that he feels he needs to implement his ideas and identity on the team in order to make us more competitive.

With a number of key positions in need of attention as we look to either upgrade or add depth, Pavlovic will address one of those issues by hopefully solidifying our central defence to complement the likes of Fikayo Tomori, Malick Thiaw, Pierre Kalulu and Matteo Gabbia.

Having conceded 49 goals in our 38 Serie A games last season, giving us the worst defensive record of the top 11 teams, it was painfully obvious that we needed to find solutions in that department this summer to shore things up at the back.

Should Pavlovic arrive, it’s hoped that he can be a key influence in that push for us become harder to break down, but with the midfield and attack also requiring more quality, it promises to be a busy period between now and the end of the transfer window for Milan, with possible outgoings to consider too.

Nevertheless, the one positive thus far is that the club’s hierarchy and Fonseca appear to be fully aware of where our main weaknesses and vulnerabilities are, and so hopefully the process of securing new signings will gather pace in the coming weeks as we prepare to embark on our pre-season schedule.
