Progress made as Milan close in on transfer target to strengthen midfield

AC MIlan have reportedly made progress in their bid to sign Torino midfielder Samuele Ricci as they close in on a deal for the summer.

The 23-year-old joined Torino in 2022 after impressing at Empoli, and he has since gone on to make 98 appearances for the club, while he now has six caps for Italy to his name too.

It’s not the first time that Milan have been paired with an interest in him, as he was a touted target prior to our signing of Ismael Bennacer in 2019, but it would appear as though this time round a deal could be done.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the Rossoneri have made progress in talks with Torino over a deal to sign Ricci at the end of the season, and he also notes that talks over personal terms with the player himself are now at an advanced stage.

No details of those discussions or numbers are shared, but talks are said to be ongoing, and the tone is certainly positive as we look set to bolster our midfield and potentially give Sergio Conceicao another key option next season, should he still be in charge.

With Bennacer, Youssouf Fofana, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Yunus Musah, Tijjani Reinjders and youngster Kevin Zeroli all featuring for the first-team squad so far this season, we do already have plenty of options in that department, and so it will be interesting to see if the signing of Ricci is with the implication that space will be made with a sale to also help balance the books.

Nevertheless, Ricci has been a consistent performer in Serie A for a significant period now and has a big future ahead of him as he continues to improve and develop, and so it would certainly be an exciting addition to the Milan squad if a deal can be done.

Evidently with the fact that it’s a move for the summer and not this month, it’s a swoop that the Milan hierarchy want to lock in sooner rather than later with Torino seemingly unwilling to lose him midway through the campaign, and so hopefully an agreement can be reached in the coming days or weeks.
