AC Milan news: Tonali in line for wage increase, contract talks at end of season

AC Milan are reportedly set to hand Sandro Tonali a salary increase at the end of the season to reward his improvement this year.

The 21-year-old joined the Rossoneri from Brescia in 2020, and after an underwhelming first season at the club, he has shown a major improvement this year.

So much so he has made 36 appearances across all competitions thus far, scoring two goals and providing three assists, and has firmly established himself as a pivotal figure in Stefano Pioli’s plans.

With Franck Kessie set to leave this summer as his contract will run down, that in turn will open up a path for Tonali to become an even more prominent figure for Milan, and it appears as though the club are ready to reward him for what he’s shown thus far.

As per MilanNews, the two parties are expected to hold talks once the campaign has concluded, which will result in an offer to increase Tonali’s wages, with his current contract set to expire in 2026.

Time will tell if the club will push to lengthen his deal too or if it will simply be a wage hike, but given how much improvement, maturity and evolution that Tonali has shown this season, it’s a great move from the club to reward him for being such an integral part of the team.

Naturally, the more immediate focus is on finishing the season well and securing silverware as Milan remain in the hunt for the Serie A title and Coppa Italia, and Tonali will no doubt play a pivotal role in that pursuit of success.

As he continues to become a more important figure at the club, it’s to be expected that he’ll be paid as such, and it’s hoped that we see an ongoing process in the coming years that results in Tonali emerging as one of the best midfielders in Europe who is leading our charge for success.
