AC Milan news: Talks underway over Junior Firpo loan move from Barcelona

AC Milan are reportedly in talks over the loan signing of Barcelona left-back Junior Firpo as the Rossoneri look to add depth and quality in that department.

While Theo Hernandez has firmly established himself as a starter in that role over the past two seasons, Stefano Pioli is still short of quality options to cover his absence.

Diogo Dalot played in that role at times last year but has since returned to Man Utd after his loan spell ended, while as per MilanNews, Diego Laxalt is said to be on the verge of a €3.5m, plus bonuses, move to Dynamo Moscow.

That in turn would raise further concern over our lack of alternatives in that position, but it appears as though Milan have a plan in place to address the issue this summer.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, negotiations have begun over a move for Firpo, which would be an initial loan switch to San Siro but with an option to buy included in the agreement.

It’s added that the player himself is ready to make the move and so it remains to be seen if all parties concerned can reach respective agreements to ensure that the deal happens in the coming months.

Firpo, 24, joined Barcelona from Real Betis in 2019, but he has gone on to make just 41 appearances for the club, chipping in with two goals and three assists along with his defensive work.

With his playing time limited with the Catalan giants, it’s arguably no surprise then that he would be interested in a move elsewhere, and Milan could be ready to offer him a solution.

In that regard, a deal could work for all concerned, but while it sounds as though progress has already been made after early talks, time will tell if it leads to a definitive outcome and if it will be a problem addressed for Milan this summer.
