Having confirmed the signings of Alvaro Morata and Strahinja Pavlovic, AC Milan have hopefully found solutions for two glaring issues in the squad.
After Olivier Giroud’s departure, a new frontman was needed to lead the line for Rossoneri boss Paulo Fonseca, and so Morata arrives off the back of a positive season with Atletico Madrid and having triumphed at EURO 2024 with Spain.

His goals, assists and ability to be a focal point up top will all hopefully see him emerge as an integral cog in what Milan are trying to build and implement this season, and so that is one major concern ticked off the list as addressed, albeit there is still a need for better depth behind him.
As for Pavlovic, he hopefully adds a steeliness and solidity in defence as well as balance with his ability to play as the left-sided centre-half, and after Milan’s woeful defensive record last season, that reinforcement will hopefully go a long way in making us a more watertight backline in the upcoming campaign.
It’s reassuring that the Milan hierarchy, likely in conjunction with Fonseca, have successfully identified where we needed to improve this summer, and they’ve patiently done their work and acquired two players who will have been drafted in on their talent, experience and suitability for Fonseca’s preferred system, structure and style of play.
However, that’s not the end of what Milan must do in this transfer window to raise the level of this squad, as we’re still in need of upgrades or at the very least increased competition in other positions and roles too.
It seems as though it’s no secret that the Rossoneri are keen on adding another right-back to the group to provide competition for Davide Calabria, but it’s the midfield that is perhaps the next big area of concern.
Ismael Bennacer, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Tijjani Reijnders and Yunus Musah will all hopefully establish themselves under Fonseca, but there is still a lack of defensive solidity, physicality, athleticism and an imposing figure in a deeper role to give us a foothold and control in games on a consistent basis.
Milan are currently linked with various names to improve in that area, and similarly to Pavlovic and Morata, it’s imperative that we get the right profile in to address these concerns, as it will also contribute to having a strong spine in the team which is the foundation and recipe for success.
Time will tell who arrives to provide that particular solution, but while the signs are positive over pre-season and we’re certainly going in the right direction in the transfer market so far, the work is far from done, and it’s hoped we continue to bring in players capable of being a great fit for Fonseca and thus making us as competitive as possible this year.
