AC Milan CEO Giorgio Furlani has talked up the strength of the club’s current financial position, while insisting that neither Mike Maignan nor Theo Hernandez will leave this summer.
The Rossoneri have had a slow start to the transfer window with Alvaro Morata being our only notable addition to Paulo Fonseca’s squad thus far, while we’ve seen a number of exits already with stalwarts Olivier Giroud and Simon Kjaer among those to depart.

Not only must we strengthen the group based on our shortcomings last season to close the gap on our rivals, but with Fonseca looking to mould the squad into his own and implement his ideas and style of play, it’s fundamental that the club backs him in bringing in new faces that suit his plans.
The message from within the club has been one of patience, as they have consistently insisted that there is no rush and we will target the best possible options between now and the end of the transfer window.
However, in addition to the concern over our inactivity, there has been the question as to whether or not we have to sell this summer in order to balance our books and fund our push to bring in reinforcements.
Fortunately, Furlani has provided what appears to be a very clear message on that, in that we don’t have to sell our top players as Milan are in a strong financial position, having been able to avoid posting losses on our books for the past two years.
“Our ambition is to fight for the Scudetto every year and to be competitive in the Champions League too,” he told Bloomberg, as per MilanNews. “Now we want to do it by implementing a sustainability strategy. I’ll give you an example: two years ago, for the first time in 17 years, the balance sheet didn’t show any losses, and last year we repeated this important result, and I don’t think anything like this has ever happened to Milan.
“We aren’t forced to sell players due to a lack of capital or cash flow problems, so we don’t need to sell anyone. So as a fan, I can tell you that you don’t have to worry about Maignan and Theo.”
While that is certainly reassuring from a business and financial perspective, the focus remains on improving this squad and ensuring that we’re able to compete at the top level for major honours.
New signings are undoubtedly needed to raise the level, and so while it’s important that we keep our most influential players and continue to build around them, it’s imperative that Milan are able to get deals done in the coming weeks amid ongoing speculation and reports of talks continuing for our priority targets.
