Milan close in on key signing as agreement reached after push to seal deal

AC Milan have reportedly reached an agreement with Luka Modric as we close in on signing him on a free transfer.

The 39-year-old is set to bring an end to a trophy-laden spell with Real Madrid at the end of the month, having already announced that he will leave the Spanish giants when his current contract expires.

Given he is still going strong and has plenty left in the tank, the Croatian midfielder wouldn’t have been short of options this summer, but it appears as though Milan are set to win the race for his signature.

According to Antonio Vitiello, there is now an agreement between Modric and Milan after sporting director Igli Tare travelled to Croatia to secure the deal, and it’s added that the move is now nearing completion.

Further, he adds that it’s a one-year contract with an option to extend for a further year, and so it’s hoped that we get an official announcement imminently to confirm what could prove to be a crucial signing for the Rossoneri.

With Tijjani Reijnders on the verge of moving to Manchester City, Milan will have a glaring void in our midfield moving forward as we look to rebuild the squad this summer to align with what Massimiliano Allegri wants the group to look like.

Should Modric arrive as now expected, he has all the qualities and characteristics required to be a leading figure in the heart of this Milan team, setting the tone and standard for the rest of his teammates while being Allegri’s orchestrator on the pitch.

Albeit it’s a short-term solution, it certainly promises to be a pretty handy one to have at the Milan boss’s disposal, and coupled with the fact that it’s a free transfer, we’ll hopefully have significant funds still available from player sales to continue to strengthen the squad.

This is going to be a critical summer for Milan as we make changes at all levels, and in a bid to set a solid foundation this year on which we can build future success, Modric could be a fundamental addition to help with that process, assuming the formalities of a switch to Milan are now completed without a hitch.
