Milan paired with interest in defensive reinforcement to address key issue

AC Milan have been paired with an interest in Bayern Munich defender Kim Min-Jae as we consider adding defensive reinforcements this summer.

The Rossoneri finished eighth in Serie A this past season, and although scoring goals wasn’t too much of an issue, not conceding them certainly was.

Having allowed 43 goals in 38 league games, that gave us the second-worst defensive record of the top eight sides in the standings, and so it will be something that must be addressed this summer with Massimiliano Allegri undoubtedly looking to make us more difficult to beat.

Speculation is rife over potential outgoings and incomings this month, but according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Kim could be an option for us to help shore up our backline, as it’s noted that he’s likely to leave the Bavarian giants, and he’s a player who Allegri admires.

It’s added that the financial aspects of a deal for the South Korean international could complicate a possible transfer swoop, but if Milan do believe that he could be the ideal option to strengthen our defence, time will tell if an agreement can be reached between the two clubs, and with the player on personal terms.

Kim made 45 appearances for Napoli prior to moving to Germany as he played a pivotal role in their Scudetto success under Luciano Spalletti, and so he knows the league well and that would surely help with his adaptation if he was to return to Italy.

The report goes on to note that it’s unlikely that signing a centre-half will be the only business that Milan do in that area of the squad, and so it looks as though we’re heading towards a pretty significant rebuild this summer as Allegri looks to construct a group of players with whom he can implement his ideas successfully.

As a commanding presence at the back coupled with the composure to play out, Kim would tick a lot of important boxes when it comes to a modern-day centre-half, but it remains to be seen if a deal can be done for the 28-year-old, while it will be intriguing to see the knock-on effect that might have on those already in the current squad competing for the same position.

Allegri is expected to take a closer look at his players when pre-season training gets underway early next month, and the likes of Matteo Gabbia, Strahinja Pavlovic, Malick Thiaw and Fikayo Tomori will have to prove themselves to the new Milan boss to earn their spot in his plans moving forward.
