Concern allayed after key Milan ace suffers injury blow vs Genoa

AC Milan suffered an injury scare in our win over Genoa on Monday night, with midfielder Youssouf Fofana forced off after just 28 minutes.

The Rossoneri came from behind in the second half to secure all three points in a 2-1 win, as we continue to build momentum and confidence ahead of the Coppa Italia Final.

Sergio Conceicao will be desperately hoping to avoid any further injury setbacks over the next week, but there was a scare at the Marassi, as Fofana had to be replaced midway through the first half.

According to MilanNews though, via DAZN, although the Frenchman was seen applying ice to the bottom of his foot after a painful knock, it’s suggested by those who were present on the sidelines that it didn’t look like a serious issue.

Naturally, we’ll have to wait to hear from Conceicao to officially confirm that Fofana isn’t facing a spell on the sidelines, as with just over a week to go before we face Bologna in the Coppa Italia Final, we can ill-afford to lose such an important figure in the side.

The 26-year-old has made 49 appearances across all competitions thus far, contributing one goal and nine assists to go with his defensive duties, and with his physicality, athleticism, tenacity and technical ability, he has firmly established himself as an influential cog in how we play in both phases.

In turn, the last thing we need ahead of a big game is to be without Fofana’s services, and so it’s hoped that the decision to replace him was more precautionary as opposed to the potential threat of him suffering a damaging setback.

Milan face Bologna in a Serie A meeting on Friday night, and so there will be intrigue over Conceicao’s starting line-up for that clash ahead of the showdown next week with so much more on the line as we look to salvage something from this underwhelming campaign.
