Crucial double fitness boost touted for Milan ahead of Bologna clash

AC Milan are reportedly set to receive good news on the injury front ahead of the Coppa Italia final against Bologna in Rome on Wednesday night.

The Rossoneri have improved in both the standard of our performances and results in recent weeks, and there is still a very slim chance that we can climb the Serie A standings into a more respectable position despite it being such a largely underwhelming and disappointing campaign.

However, the full focus this week will be on trying to win another piece of silverware, with Sergio Conceicao and the squad looking to add to the Super Cup that they lifted earlier in the campaign.

In order to have the best possible chance of doing that in what promises to be a difficult encounter with Bologna at the Stadio Olimpico, the Portuguese tactician will be hoping to have as close to a fully-fit squad at his disposal as possible, and there was good news to start the week.

As reported by MilanNews, both Fikayo Tomori and Youssouf Fofana have recovered from head and foot issues respectively to put themselves in contention for the showdown, with the likelihood that if they are passed fit to feature, they will both start having been so key in our upturn in form after a switch to the 3-4-3 system.

Particularly in the case of Fofana, we saw the impact of his absence in our league win over Bologna last Friday, and so he will be fundamental in giving us balance and a physical presence in the middle of the pitch as we look to control possession and tempo.

As for Tomori, we’ve been a more solid defensive unit after the switch to a back-three, and his partnership with Matteo Gabbia and Strahinja Pavlovic at the back has been a key part in that, so it would be a boost to have him available having shaken off the knock he sustained last time out.

Having caused us problems last week, Bologna undoubtedly carry a threat and will be highly motivated to secure a trophy to continue what has been a really positive period for them after qualifying for the Champions League this season.

In turn, Milan will have to be at our best to ensure we get the desired outcome, and it’s hoped that we have minimal absentees for the clash to give Conceicao as many tactical solutions as possible.
