Crucial double injury boost for Milan ahead of Atalanta clash

AC Milan have been handed an important double injury boost ahead of our Serie A encounter with Atalanta on Sunday night.

The Rossoneri will go into the crunch clash at San Siro looking to close the gap on our rivals in the race to qualify for the Champions League next season, as our poor form this season has left us with ground to make up.

It certainly won’t be easy against an Atalanta side currently sitting in third spot and after they got back to winning ways last time out, and so Sergio Conceicao will hope to have as close to a full squad at his disposal as possible to give us the best possible chance of getting a positive result.

As per Antonio Vitiello, both Mike Maignan and Santiago Gimenez were involved in group training on Friday, and so the pair are expected to be available this weekend when we take on Gian Piero Gasperini’s side.

Maignan has recovered from the head injury that he sustained at Udinese, while Gimenez missed out last week after picking up an issue against Fiorentina a fortnight ago.

Given their influence at either end of the pitch, it’s undoubtedly an important boost to have them available for selection, and it’s hoped that they’re able to have a positive impact on the outcome on Sunday, if involved.

Maignan has conceded 52 goals in 45 appearances across all competitions so far this season, while keeping 12 clean sheets.

As for Gimenez, he’s scored three goals and provided two assists in 13 outings since joining us in the January transfer window, and so he’ll be eager to add to his tallies and finish the season well heading into a full pre-season with the squad.

There’s still a lot to play for as we look to climb the Serie A standings in the final weeks of the campaign, and it’s hoped that a confidence-boosting win over Atalanta will help fuel a strong run to end the season.
