Important double injury boost for Milan, updates on key quartet

AC Milan boss Stefano Pioli will be buoyed this week after both Mike Maignan and Alessandro Florenzi returned to full group training on Wednesday.

The Rossoneri have consistently battled injury problems again this season, with various influential individuals being sidelined and thus limiting our options and making the challenge more difficult.

Fortunately though, having already welcomed the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Fikayo Tomori back in recent weeks, there appears to be more good news incoming as MilanNews report that both Maignan and Florenzi completed a full training session with the rest of the group.

Further, it’s suggested that the Milan pair will likely return this weekend for our encounter with Atalanta, albeit only on the bench as they continue to work towards a comeback on the pitch.

It’s hoped that there are now no late setbacks for either of them and that they are closely monitored in the coming days and weeks to ensure that they remain on track to return, with our meeting with Fiorentina on March 4 potentially a more realistic target.

Meanwhile, the report adds that both Ismael Bennacer and Davide Calabria continued with personalised training sessions away from the rest of their teammates, and so there may well need to be more patience with them as they are recovering from muscle issues.

That said, the Fiorentina game is also touted as a possible return date for them, but time will tell if Pioli will have a packed bench consisting of all of his key players next month as we look to build on our recent improved form.

After a disastrous run of results, the Rossoneri are now on a three-game winning streak across all competitions and have kept three consecutive clean sheets.

Getting Maignan back will no doubt boost our defensive strength, while Bennacer’s influence in midfield has been missed significantly. Add the experience and defensive qualities of Florenzi and Calabria as options in the full-back roles, and Milan are starting to look a lot stronger depth wise as we try to remain competitive and secure a top-four finish in Serie A this season while going far in the Champions League.
