Boost for Milan as positive updates provided on injured duo

AC Milan have received positive news on the injury front as Luka Jovic’s setback isn’t serious, while Emerson Royal is closing in on a return.

Jovic, 27, was the hero last week after bagging a brace in our win over Inter to help book our place in the Coppa Italia Final, but he wasn’t able to build on that after suffering an injury in the warm-up before our win at Venezia on Sunday.

It was hoped that it wasn’t a serious setback which might rule him out in the coming weeks with not long left in the season, and the initial news is positive as he’s expected to be back at full fitness before the Final.

As reported by MilanNews, via Gianluca Di Marzio, Jovic suffered a back issue on Sunday, but having started to receive treatment already, the aim is to have him back fully fit and available for selection against Bologna on May 14.

The Serbian international has scored four goals in 12 appearances so far this season, and with neither Tammy Abraham nor Santiago Gimenez offering us a consistent and prolific presence up top, it will likely be important for Sergio Conceicao to have as many options at his disposal as possible to lead the line or make an impact off the bench.

The injury is a blow though as it denies Jovic the chance to build momentum and form, but he’ll hope to get back on the pitch in the coming weeks.

Meanwhile, the report above also notes that Emerson Royal is expected to resume group training in the coming days having been sidelined by a calf injury since January, and so again, although he hasn’t been a consistent or top performer this season, it’s another option for Conceicao to utilise if he believes he can help us finish the season in positive fashion.

Milan face Genoa, Bologna, Roma and Monza to wrap up our Serie A campaign over the next month, while the Coppa Italia Final is sandwiched in between those fixtures. In turn, there’s lots still to play for as we aim to win more silverware and to close the gap on our rivals in the European qualification spots in the league standings, and having a full squad available will no doubt help us be more competitive.
