Duo provide key fitness boost as Milan prepare for Inter clash

AC Milan boss Sergio Conceicao has received a fitness boost after both Kyle Walker and Ruben Loftus-Cheek resumed group training on Monday.

The Rossoneri face Inter in the second leg of our Coppa Italia semi-final tie on Wednesday night, and following the disappointment of our defeat against Atalanta this past weekend, we need to recover, regroup and bounce back quickly.

Getting key individuals back from injury will certainly help that push, and as per Sky Sport Italia, both Walker and Loftus-Cheek provided us with a timely boost after returning to group training to start the new week.

Walker has recovered from elbow surgery and could be in line to start if he’s passed fit enough to replace Alex Jimenez in the right-back or right wing-back role, while Loftus-Cheek has been out since the end of last month with appendicitis.

Given the length of his layoff, it’s unlikely that the Milan midfielder comes straight back into the side, but his presence on the bench will no doubt be an important boost for this game and the coming weeks.

With our hopes of securing Champions League football for next season rapidly dissipating as doubts grow over our ability to qualify for any level of European football, the Coppa Italia now has even more significance in what has been a bitterly disappointing campaign on the whole.

Question marks continue to be raised over the futures of the coach, some of the players in the current squad as well as the management structure, and so with big changes expected in the summer, Conceicao and all concerned will be desperate to deliver more silverware.

With Mike Maignan and Santiago Gimenez recovering from setbacks of their own to feature against Atalanta on Sunday night, Milan continue to move towards having as close to a fully-fit squad available as possible, and it’s hoped that that proves to be a pivotal factor in our ability to put together a positive run of form to end the season.
