AC Milan injury news: Giroud boost after ankle issue vs Napoli

AC Milan have received a boost as Olivier Giroud avoided any serious injury to his ankle in the win over Napoli.

The Frenchman suffered a nasty cut just above his ankle in the first half after a clash with Kalidou Koulibaly, while he appeared to hurt himself after the break as he lost his footing and rolled his ankle.

That in turn led to him being replaced in the latter stages, and the fear was that it could be an issue that might force him to be sidelined for our upcoming games.

Fortunately, as per Antonio Vitiello, Giroud is said to have undergone further tests on his ankle on Monday, and they have ruled out any sprain while he has also avoided needing stitches on the cut he suffered.

In turn, it has been assessed that the injury isn’t anything serious, and he will now in turn be evaluated in training this week to determine whether or not he can feature against Empoli on Saturday night.

Giroud, 35, has been a key figure for Milan so far this season, scoring 11 goals and providing three assists in 27 appearances across all competitions.

While Zlatan Ibrahimovic returned from an injury of his own this past weekend to offer Stefano Pioli more competition and depth in that department moving forward, losing Giroud would have been a blow given his threat in the final third and his welcome habit of scoring big goals in key games.

However, it seems as though the news is positive and it’s hoped that he will be able to train this week with no further problems ahead of featuring against Empoli.
