Injury concern allayed as key Milan ace expected to face Torino

AC Milan forward Christian Pulisic is reportedly not at risk of missing our Serie A season opener against Torino this weekend due to injury.

The 25-year-old missed our final pre-season outing against Monza in midweek, sparking concern that he might not be ready to feature on Saturday night.

However, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, as reported by MilanNews, the USA international was left out as a precautionary measure after picking up an ankle knock, but it isn’t expected to rule him out this weekend.

It’s certainly hoped that proves to be the case, as Pulisic will hope to solidify himself as a pivotal option for Paulo Fonseca in the early stages of the new campaign.

He showed his quality with an excellent debut campaign with us last year, scoring 15 goals and providing 11 assists in 50 appearances across all competitions, and so it’s hoped that with the help of a new coach at the helm, he can build on that and continue to be an influential figure for us in the final third.

As with the rest of the squad, our new identity, structure and style of play under Fonseca will hopefully suit Pulisic perfectly to help him take his game to the next level, as we have strengthened the squad and potentially now have a way of playing that will utilise the quality that we already have more efficiently.

In turn, avoiding an early absence will be critical as it will not only set Pulisic back physically and from a fitness perspective, but the more time he has to continue to integrate and adapt in games, it will speed up the process of our attacking unit executing Fonseca’s ideas as effectively and consistently as possible.

Particularly with the late arrival of summer signing Alvaro Morata, the Milan frontman will want to build understanding and chemistry with the likes of Pulisic in the coming weeks, and so hopefully we’ll have as close to a fully-fit squad available on Saturday night as we get the new Serie A campaign underway.
