AC Milan injury news: Calabria picks up calf strain

AC Milan defender Davide Calabria has reportedly sustained a calf injury while on international duty with Italy.

The 24-year-old has continued to establish himself as a fundamental part of the Milan XI this season having improved his level of consistency, and so any spell on the sidelines would be a disappointing blow for the Rossoneri.

Calabria has featured 14 times across all competitions so far this year, adding two goals and an assist to his defensive duties.

However, as reported by MilanNews, he has suffered a calf strain while on international duty with the Azzurri, although it’s too early to determine how serious the issue might be, and in turn how long it might rule him out for.

Stefano Pioli has been battling injuries to his squad throughout the campaign thus far, and so it’s hoped that he won’t have to plan without Calabria for our clash with Fiorentina on Saturday, which is swiftly followed by a trip to Atletico Madrid in the Champions League on Wednesday.

If Calabria is ruled out, one of Alessandro Florenzi or Pierre Kalulu will hope to step in and fill the void, and so while it’s hoped that our first-choice right-back will be available, there is certainly a strength in depth in the Milan squad this year to cope with absentees.

Pioli will continue to be without Mike Maignan, Messias Junior and possibly Samu Castillejo after the international break concludes, and he’ll be eager to avoid that list growing in length between now and the weekend whether it’s Calabria or any other of his regular starters.
