AC Milan have confirmed that Alessandro Florenzi underwent successful surgery on his right knee this week after suffering a serious injury.
The 33-year-old sustained the setback in our pre-season game against Manchester City last weekend, and based on his immediate reaction on the pitch, it was clear that he was fearing the worst.

Unfortunately, further tests and scans revealed that those fears were warranted, and it was announced shortly after that Florenzi would be going under the knife to repair the damage suffered.
As per the club’s statement, the Milan stalwart had surgery to reconstruct his ACL and repair his meniscus in his right knee, and while the operation itself was considered a success, Florenzi will soon begin his rehabilitation process and it will be a long road back to making a full recovery.
The Italian international has had serious knee injuries previously, and so perhaps that was why he reacted in the way he did as he will be fully aware of the feeling and pain that comes with such a significant setback.
Having had his surgery now though, it’s hoped that he’s able to make a full and speedy recovery in the coming months, and while it’s certainly a blow to lose his quality, versatility, experience and leadership, Paulo Fonseca will look to others to ensure that we have enough in the squad to be competitive despite the blow.
All those attributes and qualities would have made Florenzi an important presence in the dressing room as Fonseca begins his time in charge, as it’s always beneficial having the backing of veteran voices around the squad to help with the adaptation process and to get ideas and tactical instructions across.
Nevertheless, it remains to be seen if the setback now sparks Milan into action in the transfer market as that is a possible option too, with Tottenham’s Emerson Royal continuing to be heavily linked with a move to join us this summer.
For Florenzi though, he’ll now begin another gruelling rehab process, and hopefully we’ll see him make steady progress before making his comeback when the medical staff give him the green light.
