Permanent exit confirmed as Milan talent departs club

AC Milan have confirmed that Daniel Maldini has completed a permanent move to Monza in a disappointing end to his time with the Rossoneri.

The 22-year-old came through the youth ranks with us and showed great promise, but with just one goal in 24 appearances at senior level, an exit had become increasingly likely given his recent loan stints elsewhere.

As per the club’s statement, he has now joined Monza on a permanent basis and so we wish him well in the next stage of his career as he will undoubtedly have a more prominent role there than he would have with Milan. No further details of the agreement were shared, and so it remains unclear what fee was involved and if any clauses were inserted into the deal.

While it’s a decision that makes sense for all concerned given the competition for places we already have in the squad and the likelihood that Maldini would have been down the pecking order, there is still a sense of disappointment over this latest and final development.

Given the history and dynasty that the Maldini family have with the club, it was always hoped that he would make the cut and prove himself to be a key member of the first-team squad moving forward, but that ultimately hasn’t materialised and ends that chapter for the time being.

The expectation is that Milan will continue to strengthen Paulo Fonseca’s squad this summer with options that suit his style of play and ideas, and while Maldini may well have come into consideration for the new Milan boss as he assessed his options moving forward, the decision has been made to move in a different direction.

It’s hoped that it proves to be the correct one for both parties, and time will tell if perhaps paths cross again in the future as we bid farewell to the latest generation of the Maldini family.
