Milan chief provides positive update on possible contract renewals for key duo

AC Milan Technical Director Geoffrey Moncada has provided an update on potential contract renewals for Mike Maignan and Theo Hernandez.

Maignan, 29, is currently under contract with the Rossoneri until June 2026, while Hernandez, 27, will see his deal expire at the same time.

While there isn’t necessarily a major rush at this stage to agree on new terms given they still have time to run, Milan will not want to be in a position where we have two pivotal players in the last year of their respective contracts, and so the sooner agreements can be reached the better for all concerned as both Maignan and Hernandez remain pillars of the current side.

In an extensive interview in which he covered various topics, Moncada provided a positive update on the futures of the Milan duo, as although it doesn’t sound as though any agreement is imminent, talks are seemingly moving in the right direction to eventually secure new deals.

“We started the discussions two months ago,” Moncada told MilanNews. “I can say that we are in a good position. I don’t know who will be the first but we have started very well. Everyone is really happy, I haven’t seen anyone who wants to leave. You can ask them, everyone is happy here at Milan”.

Since joining us from Real Madrid in 2019, Hernandez has gone on to make 226 appearances for the club, contributing 31 goals and 41 assists to go with his defensive work.

As for Maignan, he has featured 125 times in a Milan shirt since he arrived from Lille in 2021, and although he has struggled with injuries during that time, he remains one of the best in his position in Europe and is still a key part of our plans moving forward.

In turn, ideally, we’d have our integral players secured for the long-term future and that will allow us to continue to build around them, and so it’s hoped that both Maignan and Hernandez put pen to paper on new contracts sooner rather than later to ensure that they’re with us for many more years to come.
