New signing confirmed as Milan address another crucial issue this summer

AC Milan have confirmed the signing of Emerson Royal from Tottenham, to provide Paulo Fonseca with another vital solution in his squad.

The 25-year-old made 101 appearances for Tottenham after spells with Real Betis and Barcelona prior to joining the Premier League side, while he has earned 10 caps for Brazil.

As per the club’s official statement, Emerson will now embark on a new chapter in his career, as he’s penned a a contract that will keep him with us until June 2028, with an option included in the agreement to extend for an additional year.

Further, the Rossoneri have confirmed that the Brazilian defender will wear the No.22 shirt.

It’s an intriguing move from the club as ultimately on the face of it, it does feel like a rather underwhelming signing given his limited progression and impact at Spurs.

Nevertheless, it’s another key addition to our squad to address a glaring weakness, as it will hopefully at the very least provide stiff competition for Davide Calabria at right-back, particularly after Alessandro Florenzi’s serious injury blow.

However, the signing would have been made with the intention of Emerson emerging as the first choice in that position, as he’ll hopefully be an ideal fit for Fonseca’s system and style of play, and thus we’ll see him kick on and develop his game to become a key figure for us.

It follows the signings of Alvaro Morata and Strahinja Pavlovic so far this summer, and so it’s hoped that by bringing in much-needed solutions in areas of weakness, Milan are becoming increasingly competitive, and Fonseca is getting the profile of players he requires to successfully implement his ideas and style of play to ensure that his tenure is a success.

Emerson is unlikely to be the last reinforcement to arrive this summer, but it’s hoped that with the new Serie A season upon us this weekend, he can integrate and adapt quickly to make his mark in the side sooner rather than later.
