Significant valuation gap could rule out exit for Milan ace

Amid speculation linking Mike Maignan with an exit from AC Milan, our valuation is reportedly significantly higher than what Chelsea are willing to pay.

Although the 29-year-old has struggled with injuries and dips in form during his stint with us, he still has the key ability to be decisive and is an important leadership figure in the dressing room given he’s now been with us since 2021.

However, doubts have emerged over his future with the Rossoneri as the French shot-stopper has just 12 months remaining on his current contract, and with renewal talks seemingly stalling, it had opened the door for interested parties to try and prise him away from San Siro.

According to Fabrizio Romano though, Milan value Maignan at around €30m, and with Chelsea said to be willing to pay around €10m given his contract situation, that is a significant gap to make up and come to an agreement.

In turn, while it seems highly unlikely that a compromise will be reached, the Premier League side are said to have put in place a deadline until Monday to find a solution, otherwise they will likely pass on the possible swoop for the French international.

From Milan’s perspective, it’s hoped that we’re still in constructive talks to try and secure Maignan’s long-term future by agreeing terms on a new deal.

With Tijjani Reijnders set to leave for Manchester City and major doubts lingering over Theo Hernandez’s future at the club, Milan are at risk of losing too many influential players in one window, and that will make the task for sporting director Igli Tare and boss Massimiliano Allegri all the more difficult as they look to build the squad following a disastrous campaign under their predecessors.

Should Maignan depart, we would certainly need to replace him, and with so many other areas and issues to address, we could do without that particular headache, but much will depend on Chelsea’s highest offer and whether or not Maignan is willing to put pen to paper on a contract extension with us still to finally dismiss doubts over his future.
