Touted deal agreed as Milan look set to make imminent change

AC Milan have reportedly reached an agreement with Sergio Conceicao for him to become our new coach and replace Paulo Fonseca.

Speculation was rife on Sunday night prior to and after our 1-1 draw with Roma at San Siro, as it became a very likely possibility that a change in the coaching position would be made.

It comes after a disappointing start this season under Fonseca during which the Rossoneri have underwhelmed and lacked solutions and ideas, and that in turn has resulted in us sitting in eighth place in the Serie A standings and well off the pace being set by our rivals near the top.

While there have been some encouraging performances and results, it hasn’t been consistent enough across the league and Champions League, and that appears set to cost Fonseca his job.

According to Antonio Vitiello, a meeting took place between the Portuguese tactician and the Milan management after the Roma game, and it was confirmed to him that he would be dismissed. Further, he notes that Conceicao is expected to arrive in Milan on Monday to complete the formalities of becoming our new coach.

Meanwhile, Matteo Moretto adds that Conceicao has reached an agreement on personal terms to join Milan as he could put pen to paper on a deal that keeps him with us until 2026 initially, while his agent, Jorge Mendes, is now in contact with the Rossoneri to formalise the deal.

Given the up and down nature of our season thus far, it was always going to be difficult for Fonseca to quieten the critics and solidify his position, and it appears as though he hasn’t done enough to convince the Milan hierarchy that he is the right man for the job and can get us moving in the right direction.

While we await official confirmation of the change, it’s hoped that if Conceicao does indeed come in, he’s able to heed the warning of the issues faced by Fonseca, and ensure that his tenure starts more positively and proves to be more successful.
