Medical scheduled as Milan set to seal imminent signing

AC Milan are closing in on the signing of Luka Modric as the Croatian stalwart will reportedly undergo a medical on Monday.

The 39-year-old is a free agent this summer after his contract with Real Madrid expired, and with Massimiliano Allegri rebuilding his Rossoneri squad, it looks as though he will add the world-class stalwart to his ranks in the coming days.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Modric has approved the offer of a one-year contract from Milan, and he will arrive in Italy on Monday to undergo his medical ahead of his completing his switch to join us.

Albeit he’s now in the latter stages of his career with his best years behind him, the Croatian international will likely prove to be an important acquisition for Allegri as he looks to improve on our bitterly disappointing campaign last year.

Modric brings experience, leadership, understanding of a winning culture and standard as well as his technical ability and influential presence in midfield, and so he will hopefully prove to be an integral part of our rebuild this summer.

Having lost Tijjani Reijnders last month, Milan have already moved to bring in Samuele Ricci to fill the void in midfield, but Modric will be another excellent new recruit as Allegri looks to implement his ideas, style of play and system in his second stint in charge.

The Italian tactician will certainly benefit from having the presence of Modric in the dressing room and dictating from midfield on the pitch, and so provided that his medical goes through with no issues and personal terms are agreed, it could be a savvy addition from the Rossoneri to raise the level within the group.

With our midfield seemingly emerging as a priority area to address this summer, it remains to be seen if there will be further movement in the coming weeks, but there is plenty more work to be done on the squad in other departments to ensure that we can compete at a high level both in Serie A and the Coppa Italia.

Signing Modric will hopefully send a positive message to other potential transfer targets about the project moving forward, and we hope to see that reflected in a stronger squad to start the new campaign that is capable of delivering improved results on a more consistent basis.
