Exit being finalised as Milan set to offload defensive ace

AC Milan are reportedly closing in on a deal with Boca Juniors to sell defender Marco Pellegrino.

The 22-year-old was signed from Platense in 2023, and after a string of loan spells elsewhere, the last of which was with Huracan this past season, it appears as though his time with the Rossoneri is coming to an end on a permanent basis.

Pellegrino has made just one appearance for Milan in that time, and according to journalist Luca Bendoni, via Gianluca Di Marzio.com, the Argentine centre-half is now finalising a deal to sign for Boca in a move said to be worth around €3.5m to €4m.

Further, it’s added that we have a 20 percent future resale clause included in the agreement, and so it’s smart business from the club in offloading a player who is highly unlikely to have a role to play under Massimiliano Allegri moving forward.

With the competition for places already at the club coupled with Allegri’s plans to rebuild the squad and mould it into his own, this feels like the best solution for both club and player, and it’s hoped that Pellegrino is able to go on and flourish with Boca.

As for Milan, we have a busy summer transfer window ahead of us with several outgoings and incomings expected in the coming months, and our defence is perhaps an area in which we’ll look to significantly strengthen given our porous backline last season.

The Rossoneri conceded 43 goals in our 38 Serie A games, which gave us the third-worst defensive record of the top eight teams in the standings, and so we’ll likely be targeting more established talent to solidify and shore up our defence this summer, with Pellegrino ultimately not the right match for us at this stage.

Further exits are expected soon, but this is arguably a decent fee to recoup on the young defender, while if he does go on to fulfil his potential with Boca, we’ll be in line to receive another handy fee if he is sold on in the coming years.
