Offer submitted as Milan have big decision to make over influential figure

AC Milan have reportedly received an offer worth €15m from Chelsea as they step up their transfer pursuit of Mike Maignan.

The 29-year-old has just 12 months remaining on his current contract with the Rossoneri, and it seems the stalling over an extension has led to intense speculation over his future as an exit is possible this summer.

Losing the French shot-stopper would be a major blow given his overall positive influence on the side, and replacing him will certainly be a difficult task with Massimiliano Allegri and the club likely to be busy addressing a number of other key positions this summer too.

According to Antonio Vitiello, Chelsea have offered €15m for Maignan, but Milan’s valuation is said to be higher and so it remains to be seen if the two sides can reach a compromise for an agreement.

It’s added that Allegri wishes to keep the French international, while Maignan is keen to leave having seen contract talks fail, and so this now looks set to be a decisive period which will ultimately determine the Milan goalkeeper’s future.

As per Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea are pushing to get negotiations wrapped up before the early transfer window closes on Tuesday, and so it’s unlikely that we’ll be waiting too much longer for answers.

Given the season we experienced this past year, it was clear that changes were needed at the club from top to bottom, and we saw important appointments made with Allegri and Igli Tare arriving as coach and sporting director respectively.

Now comes the issue of addressing the squad, but Milan have to be careful that we don’t do too much and destabilise the entire group, as speculation is rife over the futures of a number of key individuals currently.

Conversely, it could be argued that wholesale changes and particularly to our leadership group are needed based on what we saw last season, and so if we do see these influential players depart, the pressure will be on Tare and our recruitment team to get our signings right, as that will determine their success and which direction we go in the upcoming campaign.
