Loanee set for exit as Milan tipped not to exercise option to buy

AC Milan will reportedly opt against exercising the option to buy on Kyle Walker, thus ending his spell with us next month when his loan deal expires.

The 35-year-old arrived in January and went on to make 16 appearances during his initial loan stint, establishing himself as an important option under Sergio Conceicao.

However, with the Portuguese tactician having now been replaced and Milan planning ahead for the summer with sporting director Igli Tare and new coach Massimiliano Allegri back at the helm, it appears as though the club are going in a different direction in that position.

As per Fabrizio Romano, Milan are not going to trigger our option to buy on the England international, and so he will return to Manchester City next month where a decision will be made on his future.

Although his experience and quality will continue to see him make an important impact, at 35 years of age, the Rossoneri are surely better placed to look for a longer-term solution in that department and an option that suits what Allegri will now look to implement over the summer.

Despite Alex Jimenez establishing himself in the side after a promising campaign this past year, it’s felt that more quality is certainly needed at right-back, and so it would come as no surprise if Milan looked to address that in the summer transfer market and bring in a reinforcement.

It promises to be a key period in the coming months as Milan look to rebuild following our disappointing season, and with a sporting director now in place, that will hopefully ensure that we construct a more solid and competitive group which is capable of getting us back towards the top end of the Serie A table, while also securing a return to European football for the following campaign having missed out entirely this time round.

As a new cycle opens up at the club, changes are undoubtedly needed given what we watched last season, and it’s hoped that we’re swift in making them to give Allegri the maximum amount of time possible to work with his players and prepare over the course of our pre-season schedule to get us back on track.
