Blow for Milan as touted first-choice candidate tipped to snub move

After reports suggesting Vincenzo Italiano had emerged as AC Milan’s first-choice target to replace Sergio Conceicao, the club have reportedly received a setback.

The Rossoneri face a decisive summer as changes are expected at every level of the club, starting with the appointment of a much-needed sporting director.

Off the back of a bitterly disappointing campaign, Igli Tare is expected to be appointed in the coming days or weeks, and he’ll hopefully oversee a more productive and successful recruitment process to ensure we build a squad capable of winning trophies and getting back to competing at the highest level.

However, further tweaks are expected, and as per Sky Sport, Italiano was said to be in pole position to become our next coach to replace Conceicao after his inability to deliver consistent results, but it was noted that Bologna were set for talks with the 47-year-old to try and convince him to commit his future to them.

It seems as though those talks between our Serie A rivals and Italiano went very well, as Sky Sport have since reported that the Italian tactician is now moving towards signing a contract extension with Bologna, and subsequently will snub an approach from Milan.

Time will tell if that’s how the situation plays out, but following this latest development, it certainly sounds as though the Rossoneri will have to look elsewhere.

It’s noted in the report above that Massimiliano Allegri and Thiago Motta are two potential alternative options that the club will consider, and the importance of this decision can’t be downplayed as it is absolutely critical that we get the next coaching appointment spot on to help us get back to the standard expected.

Further, it’s crucial that it’s a candidate who has a vision that aligns with Tare if he’s appointed, as their task of building a competitive squad will need synergy and a clear and shared intention on the identity and preferred style of play of their team moving forward.
