Clarity needed as concern touted over key Milan figure’s contract renewal talks

AC Milan face a potential concern as question marks have been raised over Christian Pulisic’s contract renewal situation.

The Rossoneri have endured a bitterly disappointing season this year, as although we secured the Italian Super Cup, we’ve fallen well short of expectations in Serie A and the Champions League and lost in the Coppa Italia final.

Doubts have subsequently emerged over the management structure, Sergio Conceicao’s future and the current squad, and so there are likely to many important changes this summer to rebuild.

What Milan can’t afford though is to lose key individuals, and Pulisic has certainly been that for us since he arrived, while the 26-year-old has bagged 17 goals and 12 assists in 49 appearances across all competitions this season.

However, according to Matteo Moretto, as reported by MilanNews, clarity will be needed on Milan’s sporting plan and direction moving forward before the USA international puts pen to paper on a contract renewal.

It’s noted that although his current deal runs until 2027, with an option to extend for a further 12 months, his agent is said to have proposed him to other clubs given the current uncertainty surrounding Milan and what direction we’re taking to become competitive again.

Although it’s reiterated that the club are in a strong position given the contract in place, talks over a renewal are on stand-by, and so with a sporting director set to arrive, potentially a new coach appointed and changes at management level ahead, it all has to help convince Pulisic and other crucial players to stay and be part of our plans moving forward.

While others have been decisive but perhaps inconsistent too, Pulisic has been a reliable presence in the final third with his quality and work ethic, and whether it’s Conceicao or a successor at the helm, they’ll surely want a player like him at their disposal.

In turn, Milan need to move at pace to get things in place and an aligned vision established running all the way through the club, and hopefully we’ll spend our summer transfer window strengthening around individuals like Pulisic, rather than having to consider replacing them.
