Assessing Milan’s 2020/21 summer transfer window

AC Milan brought in 11 new players in the summer transfer window as Stefano Pioli hopes for a more competitive and well-rounded squad.

The Rossoneri needed to strengthen this summer having secured a return to the Champions League, while we no doubt have aspirations of competing for the Serie A title too.

While a number of our acquisitions were players who were with us last season who have now either joined permanently or on another loan deal, the squad is certainly in a much healthier position now that it was at the start of last season.

So, with that in mind, how would you rate Milan’s transfer window?

After impressing last season, signing Fikayo Tomori on a permanent deal from Chelsea was a smart move from Milan as the 23-year-old has become a fundamental part of our backline.

He’ll no doubt go from strength to strength for us moving forward, with his aggressive style and pace no doubt going to be crucial when we face Champions League rivals.

Sandro Tonali struggled to showcase his talent last year but has started positively this season to make that look a smart move too, while Brahim Diaz is ready to build on last year as our new No.10 with the responsibility on his shoulders to be our creative spark.

Milan know what to expect from Tiemoue Bakayoko as he’ll offer solid midfield depth, while Alessandro Florenzi adds experience and versatility to the squad.

Mike Maignan has wasted little time showing his class in filling the void left behind by Gianluigi Donnarumma, and his compatriot Olivier Giroud has been equally as impressive at the other end of the pitch in leading our attack and already looks a brilliant signing.

Fode Ballo-Toure, Pietro Pellegri and Messias Junior add further depth and competition, while Yacine Adli will hopefully be an exciting addition in the long run after his loan return to Bordeaux.

If there is one specific area where we might not have done enough, it’s adding more creativity in a playmaker to share the burden with Brahim Diaz, and so that’s why Milan get marked down to a 8.5 out of 10 for this transfer window.

We’ve constructed and assembled a strong squad that should challenge for honours domestically & be competitive in the Champions League. There are some stand-out additions and some questionable ones too, but hopefully they all fit into Pioli’s plans and prove to be a success in their own right to ensure we move closer to achieving our objectives.
