Injury boost for Milan ahead of Genoa clash, but ace remains doubtful

AC Milan face Genoa in Serie A on Monday night and Sergio Conceicao has mixed news on the injury front.

The Rossoneri have ground to make up if we are to climb the league standings, as after a disappointing and underwhelming campaign thus far, the Coppa Italia is likely to be our best bet of qualifying for Europe.

Still, Conceicao and the players will not only want to restore some pride with a strong finish to the league campaign, but it will also help build momentum and confidence ahead of the Final later this month, and so we’ll undoubtedly be heading to Genoa looking to secure all three points.

As per Antonio Vitiello, there was good news on the injury front on Friday as Emerson Royal resumed group training, and although the Brazilian defender hasn’t entirely convinced since joining us last summer, it’s another option for Conceicao to have at his disposal to rotate and rest others if needed.

Given our switch to a 3-4-3 system though, it could perhaps suit Emerson’s game more on that right side, and so time will tell if he gets an opportunity to stake his claim in the Milan XI in the coming weeks.

It follows on from Kyle Walker returning from an injury setback of his own last week, while Alex Jimenez will be looking to fend off the increasing competition for his place.

Meanwhile, Luka Jovic is seemingly still a doubt for the encounter on Monday as while it’s noted that he is improving after suffering a back injury in the warm-up ahead of our win over Venezia last weekend, he’s still working away from the rest of the group.

After his decisive impact against Inter in the Coppa Italia semi-final second leg, it’s a shame to see the Serbian forward unable to build on that and have his momentum broken, but he’ll hope to be involved again in time for the Final and battle with Santiago Gimenez and Tammy Abraham for a starting berth.
