Milan monitoring target to bolster Pioli’s attack as summer exit touted

AC Milan are reportedly keeping tabs on the future of Christian Pulisic, as he is expected to leave Chelsea this summer.

The 24-year-old joined the Premier League outfit from Borussia Dortmund in 2019, and he has since gone on to score 26 goals and provide 21 assists in 145 appearances for the Blues.

However, he’s coming off the back of a difficult campaign in which his impact was limited, as he not only struggled with injuries and competition for places, but he managed just one goal and two assists in 30 outings across all competitions.

Despite that, it’s suggested that Milan are interested in the USA international, who has 23 goals in 57 caps, and so time will tell if that develops into a formal bid being made this summer.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Milan are ‘informed’ of Pulisic’s situation as he’s expected to move on, and although there is likely to be competition for his signature, we are specifically named as an interested party with a permanent transfer likely to be the outcome this summer.

That said, it’s added that Chelsea will seemingly have their value of him, and so it remains to be seen if we can meet that price-tag and get a deal done.

Following the departures of Paolo Maldini and Frederic Massara, there is a lot of uncertainty and uneasiness about the direction in which we’ll go in the upcoming transfer window and the level of our acquisitions, as such upheaval and change to the management infrastructure at the club can mean significant adjustments to our strategy.

What is clear from last season is that we need to add more quality to the squad to be more competitive both domestically and in Europe, specifically in the attacking third, but time will tell if Pulisic is targeted as a key solution to that problem or if we have other transfer targets in mind if a deal can’t be done for the Chelsea forward.

On paper and given the statistics above, it doesn’t feel like a sure-fire fix to our problems, but ultimately Pulisic is still young, has talent and a point to prove at the top level, and so it remains to be seen if Pioli gets an opportunity to unlock that potential.
