Sky: Meeting this week between AC Milan and Calabria over contract renewal

AC Milan will reportedly meet with Davide Calabria’s agents this week as they try to reach an agreement over a contract renewal.

The 24-year-old has come through the youth ranks to establish himself as a key figure in the senior Milan side, making 151 appearances for the first team.

Having impressed last season in particular with his maturity and improvement, he has arguably answered any remaining questions about his role as first-choice right-back for Stefano Pioli, and so he will hope to continue to build on that and develop his game moving forward.

With his current contract set to expire in 2022, Milan are seemingly keen to agree a new long-term deal, with Sky Sport Italia, as noted by MilanNews, reporting that the two parties will meet this week to discuss new terms.

It’s a sensible move from the Rossoneri as ultimately if we’re confident and comfortable with Calabria being first choice at right-back for the foreseeable future, it’s the right move to lock in a new deal and avoid any issues next year when his deal expires.

Time will tell if reaching an agreement on fresh terms will be straight-forward or not, but given the relationship and connection between club and player, it will hopefully be an easy process that will result in a new, deserved contract for Calabria.

With other key players such as Alessio Romagnoli and Franck Kessie in a similar contractual position, Milan will likely try to push forward with talks with them soon after too as losing any of these individuals on a free would be disappointing, as is the case with Gianluigi Donnarumma this summer.
