Amorim to play key role in talks to convince influential Milan stalwart to stay

AC Milan boss Ruben Amorim will reportedly be crucial in talks with Luka Modric aimed at trying to convince him to stay with us for another season.

The 40-year-old joined us last summer but has a decision ahead to determine the next step in his illustrious career as he will no doubt have multiple options on the table.

Modric made 37 appearances last season, scoring two goals and providing three assists to go with his overall influence in midfield, and having impressed for Croatia at the World Cup this summer too, the midfield stalwart has shown that he still has plenty left to offer at the highest level.

In turn, it’s hoped that he stays with us for another year at least as his experience, quality and leadership could all be so important as we look to rebuild under Amorim, and the Portuguese tactician is said to be keen to keep Modric at his disposal too.

As reported by MilanNews, via Fabrizio Romano, although there is still a possibility that Modric moves on, he has asked for time to discuss his future with his family and representatives, but the expectation is that Amorim will hold talks with him too in the coming days.

The new Milan boss has already reportedly been influential in talks to recruit Goncalo Ramos and possibly Mario Gila, as he looks to implement his ideas, way of playing and identity on this Milan squad to help us become competitive again.

In turn, it’s hoped that his vision and plan for Modric appeals to the Croatian ace, and that it proves to be enough to convince him that staying with the Rossoneri is the best option at this stage of his career as he we look to build around him and raise the level of the group where possible.

Further reinforcements are expected to arrive in the coming weeks and months as Amorim moulds the squad into his own, but exits will likely be needed too in order to balance our books and fund our spending, and so time will tell if Modric remains a pillar of our plans moving forward if he wishes to extend his stay with us, or is perhaps sacrificed to start moving in a different direction.
