Pellegri reacts to joining Milan after sealing initial loan move from Monaco

New AC Milan signing Pietro Pellegri has spoken about his move to the club and outlined what he hopes to achieve during his time with the Rossoneri.

Milan confirmed the 20-year-old’s arrival on Wednesday, as he joins on an initial loan move with an option to buy, which could become an obligation if certain conditions are met.

He joins Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Olivier Giroud as our options up front, and he’ll no doubt be relishing the opportunity to train alongside that duo as well as trying to fulfil his potential at Milan and earn a permanent move.

Speaking after the deal was announced, Pellegri revealed his happiness over returning to Italy after leaving Genoa to join Monaco in 2018, and he also touched on various other topics including his own strengths and the pride he feels to have joined such an illustrious and historic club.

“I only have positive feelings because I’ve returned to Italy and joined a great club, AC Milan,” he told Milan TV. “It’s certainly an opportunity to redeem myself and return home to Italy. Playing for a club that has won so many trophies and is one of the greatest in football history is amazing.

“I’m coming here with a great desire to grow and improve. I’ll try to learn as much as I can by watching my fellow strikers, who, in Ibrahimovic and Giroud, are certainly great champions.

“I’m here to learn and improve. I really like to attack in behind and burst into space.

“My family is everything to me. They’ve really helped me and have been by my side during difficult and great moments. I can’t wait to start and train alongside my teammates.

“I remember Ronaldinho, Inzaghi, Ronaldo, Seedorf, Pirlo. I was young when I watched them play. I had stickers of them and played with them on the PlayStation. It’s a dream to play for this club.”

Time will tell when Stefano Pioli deems him to be ready to feature in his side, but Pellegri will likely be included in the squad for Cagliari this weekend with Ibrahimovic still sidelined as he recovers from injury.

With a lack of an alternative to Giroud, the Italian will become a useful addition to the squad, and he’ll be hoping to make his first appearance for Milan sooner rather than later.
