AC Milan transfer news: Theo Hernandez contract extension imminent, Botman talks

AC Milan have reportedly had a productive week as there was positive news on Theo Hernandez’s future and our pursuit of Lille defender Sven Botman.

The Rossoneri are in good form on the pitch currently following wins over Inter and Lazio this past week, and that positive feeling is seemingly being reflected off the pitch too.

While Stefano Pioli saw his side close the gap at the top of the Serie A table at the weekend, we followed that up by booking our spot in the Coppa Italia semi-finals, and so the hope is that we’re building momentum ahead of a strong finish to the campaign and one that results in us winning silverware.

Theo Hernandez set to sign Milan contract extension

As per reputable journalist Fabrizio Romano, Milan are said to be set to announce a contract extension for Hernandez this week, which will see him commit his future to the club for the next five years.

Given how important the 24-year-old has become for us since joining in 2019, having gone on to make 108 appearances while scoring 19 goals and providing 21 assists to go along with his defensive work, it’s imperative that we secure his long-term future and make him a fundamental figure in our future plans.

In turn, if we can wrap up a new deal and announce that this week, it will be a major boost for the entire squad to see the Frenchman commit himself to Milan and that will hopefully have a knock-on effect not only in terms of other current players following suit, but helping to attract top transfer targets too.

Botman progress made after talks with agents

One of our reported targets for the summer is Botman, and as per Romano, a meeting took place today between Milan officials and the 22-year-old’s agents, and it’s suggested that those discussions resulted in the Rossoneri making their intention to sign him this summer clear.

It’s added that Newcastle Utd are also interested in the Dutchman, and given the ambitious nature of their plans moving forward following a recent takeover, it remains to be seen whether or not we can fend them off and land our priority target.

Botman has made a big impression for the Ligue 1 outfit and has nine caps for the Netherlands to his name already, as he has shown that he certainly has the ability to become a pivotal figure for both club and country at the highest level in the coming years.

With Fikayo Tomori established as one half of the central pairing with a long-term plan in mind, there is a need to consider a partner for him to eventually replace Simon Kjaer and compete with club captain Alessio Romagnoli.

It’s hoped that Botman emerges as the man to fill that role, but time will tell if this positive meeting is the first big step towards securing an agreement with both the player himself and Lille in the summer.
