After deciding to approve of an exit for Sandro Tonali, AC Milan’s decision-making in the transfer market will now be pivotal this summer to our future success.
As per BBC Sport, the 23-year-old is believed to have moved to Newcastle Utd in a deal worth £55m, making him the most expensive Italian footballer of all time.

Armed with that transfer fee and the pre-planned budget for this summer, the Rossoneri have a big opportunity to reinforce the squad and put the pieces in place to build a group capable of ushering in consistent success in a new cycle.
Our performances and results in the second half of last season were simply not good enough for the most part, and although there were obvious positives in our semi-final run in the Champions League as well as eventually managing to secure a top-four finish in Serie A, it was clear that there isn’t enough quality in the current squad.
In turn, we’ve already addressed two key areas with the signings of Marco Sportiello and Ruben Loftus-Cheek, but the pressure on the hierarchy to now use that Tonali fee wisely and continue to bring in the right players will now ramp up.
As per Fabrizio Romano, Milan have completed the signing of Luka Romero on a free transfer and so it will be fascinating to monitor his progress and development moving forward to see if he grows into a key role, while the transfer news expert has also reported that we’re closing in on a €22m deal to sign Christian Pulisic from Chelsea.
With so many question marks over the way in which the ownership have started the summer by sacking Paolo Maldini and now selling Tonali, the next month or so will tell us a lot about their seriousness in terms of making us competitive, but also the vision and strategy moving forward with regards to how we want to strengthen.
Sportiello adds experience and hopefully a sense of reliability as cover behind Mike Maignan and can be considered an upgrade, while Loftus-Cheek, 27, is entering a critical stage of his career as he looks to fulfil his potential and show his worth at the top level now, if he gets a consistent run in the side from Stefano Pioli.
At just 18 years of age, Romero is a longer-term project perhaps with a view of being a profitable asset further down the line, while Pulisic has the bulk of his career ahead of him still and will hopefully kick on and raise his level, should a move to join us materialise.
There are naturally doubts over what will and won’t work and those come every transfer window. However, it’s about making sensible decisions that give us the best possible chance of being successful on the pitch, and continuing to be prudent off it in terms of the financial and business aspect of these decisions.
Milan are expected to be very active this summer with speculation pairing us with a whole host of names, and time will tell just how productive our new signings prove to be as we fill the void left behind by Tonali’s exit, but aim to be better off for it.
