Five key talking points as Milan secure share of spoils at Juventus in 1-1 draw

AC Milan scored a second-half equaliser through Ante Rebic in Turin on Sunday as we picked up a point in a 1-1 draw against Juventus.

The Rossoneri struggled in the opening 45 minutes, as we perhaps had a hangover from our midweek efforts in the Champions League and looked far from our best.

However, the players dug in and managed to find a response to earn a point, which in turn extends our unbeaten start to the Serie A season and keeps us joint top of the table after four games.

Milan show great resolve and character

With so many key players missing through injury, and after ultimately being outplayed in the first half, Milan showed an ability to dig deep and scrap to share the spoils.

Not only that, but we showed enough positivity and courage in the latter stages of the second half to have won the game, and in years gone by, it could be argued that we’d perhaps have eventually come unstuck and fallen to a heavier defeat.

However, this team is different and has the right mix of youth and experience as well as belief and determination to have the confidence to try and win every game regardless of circumstances.

Tomori the future of the defence

At 23 years of age, Fikayo Tomori has everything needed to be a lynchpin of the Milan defence for many more years to come.

His physicality, aggression, pace and defensive awareness and positioning make him a stand-out talent, and he showed his class once again, against top-level opposition.

Milan can certainly build around him moving forward, as he continues to deliver at the highest level with room yet to improve.

Tonali maturing into key figure

With Manuel Locatelli once again irking the Milan faithful ahead of the game with some of his comments, many had hoped that Sandro Tonali would emerge victorious in this battle in midfield.

As he continues to mature, gain confidence, show growth in his game and develop his ability, he’s flourishing into a potential fixture of the Milan midfield.

It’s in these big tests that we find out a lot about players, and it’s really pleasing to see the 21-year-old step up and impose himself on these games.

Rebic delivers again

That’s now two goals and two assists in his last three appearances for Ante Rebic, as he is making a welcome habit of being decisive in the final third for Milan.

Injuries have forced him to play up front and lead the line for us over the past few games, and while it has been hard work for him considering some of the commanding defensive figures he’s come up against, he has never shied away from the challenge.

Further, his telling contributions have been directly impactful on our results, and that was the case once again this weekend as his brilliant header secured a point for us.

Injuries piling up a concern

While there were a lot of positives to come out of Sunday given our second half performance and the draw, it doesn’t get away from the fact that injuries are becoming a problem for Milan and Pioli.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Olivier Giroud were both missing for this one, while Simon Kjaer was forced off with an injury of his own with Davide Calabria already sidelined.

With such a busy fixture list, it’s imperative that Milan get a fully-fit squad back together as soon as possible as we look to compete on multiple fronts this season.
